I’m excited to finally share Emilia’s nursery reveal! This room was a long work in progress. I typically have a very clear vision of how I want to decorate a room before I even get started, but not this time around. I took a completely different approach to designing Emilia’s nursery and just made design decisions as I went along. One purchase led to another and eventually the room came together…and has become one of my favorite rooms in the house!

One thing I knew for sure about Emilia’s nursery was the color palette. I wanted something warm and neutral. We went with tan, white and ivory color combo that made the room light, bright and calming. It’s the perfect space for our baby girl!

PAINT
We wanted to add an accent wall in Emilias room in a herringbone pattern. Rather than using wallpaper, I decided to try a DIY sponge paint technique to apply a herringbone pattern to this wall. It turned even better than I had hoped! It was so easy and affordable, all you need is paint, painters tape and a few kitchen sponges. For a full tutorial, see my post DIY HERRINGBONE SPONGE PAINT WALL.
The base paint color we used is Benjamin Moore Natural Wicker. The herringbone sponge painted pattern is Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. The other three walls in the room are painted in BM Chantilly Lace as well.

RUG
We have carpet in Emilias room, but wanted to add a cozy area rug. We went with a real sheepskin rug which is the softest, most plush rug I’ve ever stepped on. It’s perfect for playtime and looks beautiful in a nursery! This style comes in several different sizes. We have the largest of the 3 that are linked below.

Here’s an alternative size – a bit smaller and more narrow…
SITTING AREA
James and I did a lot of research before purchasing the furniture in Emilia’s nursery. We wanted quality items that were comfortable and are so happy with every single thing we purchased. We chose a mix of white and acrylic furniture with antique gold hardware. The glider is the highlight of the room for James and I! It’s very comfortable and the size is perfect (even for my very tall husband!) It glides, swivels and reclines.

LIGHTING
We opted for a ceiling fan light in both girls rooms. I find a ceiling fan to be the most practical option for bedrooms in general. This fan is clean, sleek and modern. It has several speed settings and comes with a remote control.
CLOSET
For Emilia’s closet, we purchased a system online. Everything we needed to install was included. I love that it has 4 sections to separate her clothes by size. This system comes in 2 version – one with and one without drawers. We have the system without drawers.
