I’m so excited to share this SUPER EASY FRENCH BRAID WAVES TUTORIAL with you! As a new mom, I’ve been looking for easier ways to style my hair. I decided to channel my 10 year old self and try French braid waves again! This style involves very little (or no) heat and minimal effort.
It’s been years since I tried French braid waves, so it took a few tries before perfecting this style for my adult self. I was looking to achieve less of a crimped style and more of a loose, natural wave. I think I finally got it nailed down and am sharing my exact technique below, as well as the tools and products I use that make all the difference!

TOOLS/PRODUCTS
STEPS
1. Wash and towel dry hair.
2. Apply KERATIN HEALING OIL to hair and brush through.
3. Let hair air dry for 5-10 minutes.
4. Braid your hair and secure with CLEAR ELASTICS. Two French braids will give the best results. You can do regular or inside-out French braids. Determining how tight to braid your hair is the trickiest part. This depends on your hair type. If you have thick hair, the tighter the braids the better. If you have thinner hair, you’ll want to braid them looser. I recommend braiding as tightly as possible at first. Then after you finish braiding, use your fingers to loosen up the braids a bit.
5. Slide down the clear elastics as far as possible to loosen up the ends of your braids (see my video for more detail). My braids get significantly tighter and smaller towards the ends, so I slide the elastics down loosen my braids as much as possible in this area to ensure an even wave all-around.
6. Spray braids with BRUSH THROUGH HAIR SPRAY. This flexible hold hair spray will help set your waves, add shine to your hair and provide a flexible medium hold.
7. Let braids air-dry completely. I like to sleep on mine and let them dry overnight. If you wake up and your hair still feels damp, you can use a blow dryer to help speed up the drying process.
8. Once dry, gently let out the braids (if they’re still wet, they waves won’t hold!)
9. If touchups are necessary, use a WAVE WAND to add more definition to any sections that fell flat. I typically use the waver to touch up the very front of my hair and a few pieces on top – sometimes I don’t need to use it at all!
10. Spray waves with TEXTURE SPRAY. This spray will help accentuate your waves by giving your hair volume, texture and body. It enhances your waves for a gorgeous tousled look.
TIPS
- This is a hair style/treatment in one! Applying oil to damp hair overnight will leave your strands felling silky, shiny and smooth in the mornings!
- To help this style last multiple days, apply additional texture spray and dry shampoo at your roots each day!
- Next time you get your hair done, ask your stylist to braid instead of blow dry!
- Wait as long as possible before taking out your braids. The longer you wait, the longer the waves will hold.
- If your waves come out looking funny or uneven, lightly wet them with a brush to undo the wave and touch up with wave wand.
