As part of my HEALTHY LIVING SERIES on INSTAGRAM, I’ll be featuring some of my favorite non-toxic product swaps we’ve made around our house over the past couple years. Today I’m sharing my easy DIY NON-TOXIC FOAMING HAND SOAP recipe using only 2 ingredients – pure Castile soap and water! It’s a clean, organic and non-toxic product that’s very effective at cleansing. The end result is a thick, foamy liquid soap that leaves your hands feeling squeaky clean.
Not only is this homemade hand soap a healthy option, it’s also much more affordable than your traditional hand soap. One 32 oz bottle of pure Castile soap (around $16) will make 10 bottles of all natural foaming hand soap. You can’t beat that price!

WHAT YOU NEED…
FOAMING HAND SOAP BOTTLES
These foaming hand soap bottles are the best! They are sold as a set of 2 and come with this pretty concrete tray. I purchased a set and use 1 bottle in my kitchen and 1 bottle in my laundry room. I am so pleased with the look and the quality! They come in several different finishes with 2 different style waterproof labels to choose from.
You can purchase with or without a tray (both options linked below.)

I also purchased these silicone sleeves to slip on the bottom of the glass bottles!
PURE CASTILE SOAP
This is the brand of pure castile soap that I prefer – I’ve been using it for years! You can purchase unscented (for sensitive skin) or one of many options scented with essentials oils. I linked all my favorites scents for hand soap below (scroll to shop)!
DIY NON-TOXIC FOAMING HAND SOAP RECIPE
1. Fill bottle with pure liquid Castile soap.
If you’re using the foaming soap bottles linked in this post, you’ll want to add about 3 oz of Castile soap (about an inch).
This recipe is all about the soap-to-water ratio. I recommend using 1 PART SOAP TO 3 PARTS WATER. I find this to be the perfect lather for washing your hands. Play around with ratio to get your desired consistency – add less soap and more water if you prefer a thinner lather, more soap and less water if you prefer something thicker.
If you’re using the bottles linked in this post, you’ll be using approximately 3.5 oz of soap to 10.5 oz of filtered water.
2. Fill remaining bottle with filtered water.
Fill the remaining foaming soap bottle with filtered water. If you’re using these bottled it will be approximately 10.5 oz of filtered water.
Fill water slowly and leaving a little room to put the pump back in without overflowing.
3. Shake to mix.
Give your bottle a quick shake to mix the soap and water combo. Now your DIY NON-TOXIC FOAMING HAND SOAP is ready to be used!
