After sharing my first attempt at making Dutch Oven bread over on my Instagram stories, I had an overwhelming amount of messages asking for the recipe…and I can see why! This finished product is an Artisan looking bread made with minimal steps and a simple list of ingredients. It’s one of the easiest and most delicious baked goods I’ve ever made!
There’s a variety of Dutch Oven bread recipes out there but the one thing they all have in common is a short list of ingredients. Four ingredients to be exact! This is a no-knead recipe that calls for a slow rise – which is what creates such a delicious flavor. The end result is soft, flavorful bread with a nice crispy crust.
All you need to make this bread are these 4 ingredients: WATER, SALT, YEAST and FLOUR! In this post I’m sharing the measurements of each ingredient that worked best for us. Simply MIX all the ingredients together, let RISE and BAKE! Keep scrolling for exact measurements and detailed steps…

INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 3/4 tsp of salt
- 1/2 tsp of fast-acting dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups of room temperature water (not hot)
EQUIPMENT
- Dutch oven (I used a 7 1/4″)
- Parchment Paper
- Dish Towel
INSTRUCTIONS
- MIX: Mix all dry ingredients together. Add room temperature water and use a wooden spoon to stir until dough becomes sticky and shaggy.
- RISE: Cover the bowl with a dish towel and set aside to rise in a warm location for at least 12 hours (I place in my oven and usually wait 24 hours.) Make sure the bowl is large enough to allow the dough to expand and rise.
- SHAPE: About an hour before you’re ready to bake the bread, lightly flour a piece of parchment paper. Dust your hand with flour and carefully turn the dough out onto the parchment paper, folding over 1-2 times as you shape your loaf into a ball. Cover with dish towel and leave to rise for another hour.
- PRE-HEAT: When you’re ready to bake, place Dutch Oven (with lid on) in your oven and preheat to 450°F.
- BAKE: Once the oven is pre-heated, carefully grab the edges of the parchment paper and transfer the dough into the heated Dutch Oven. Place the lid back on and bake for 30 minutes. Remove lid and let bake for additional 15 min (this will get the top nice and crispy!)
- SERVE: Remove bread from Dutch Oven and let cool. Slice to serve or freeze and store up to 3 months!
