I always wanted a signet ring and thanks to Michaels Jewelers, I finally found the perfect one! As someone who gravitates towards classic and timeless styles, I knew a signet ring would be the perfect piece to add to my everyday jewelry collection. The staff at Michaels Jewelers helped me pick out and customize a gorgeous signet ring to look exactly how I always wanted. If you’ve been wanting one too, I put together A Guide To Buying A Signet Ring to help you create your own personalized piece.
SIGNET RING
Signet rings have always carried meaning, but not in the same way they do today. Historically, they functioned as an identification mark, signature or symbol of family heritage. Today’s signet rings are worn more as a fashion statement and used as personalized jewelry, often engraved with a monogram. It seems that this classic piece of jewelry is quietly making a comeback gracing the hands of celebrities and most notably, British Royalty. Whether your signet ring carries meaning or is worn simply as a fashion statement, one thing is for sure – it’ll never go out of style! This classic piece of jewelry is one you’ll have forever.
HERE IS A LINK to the exact signet ring I’m wearing. You can also contact Michaels Jewelers directly at 203-372-6594. They should be able to help with any questions you may have – just reference my blog (Red White & Denim) when you contact them! You can choose from a variety of fonts, colors and styles to have engraved on the top and/or inside the ring band. The ring I’m wearing is 14K gold, engraved with a classic circle monogram.
A GUIDE TO BUYING A SIGNET RING
MATERIAL
Traditionally signet rings were made of gold. If you’re looking for great quality – I say definitely go for the GOLD! I plan on wearing mine every day, so I wanted a durable material that would stay shiny and bright. A solid gold ring will cost significanlty more than gold-plated, but it’s worth every penny. I know from experience that gold-plated jewelry often has to be re-dipped which can end up costing you more money in the long run. A signet ring is an heirloom that will be loved, worn and appreciated for many years to come – so I think it’s worth the splurge! As mentioned above, the signet ring I’m wearing is 14K Gold.
STYLE
Michaels Jewelers has a huge selection of signet rings to choose from in every shape and size. From feminine to masculine, chunky to delicate, simple to elaborate – they have just about anything you can imagine. I chose a classic style with an oval shaped bezel. The small, delicate and feminine design fits my hand perfectly!
SIZING
Traditionally signet rings were worn on the littlest finger of your non-dominant hand. You can wear your signet ring on any finger you choose, but I prefer taking the traditional route and wearing mine on my pinky. Michaels Jewelers will adjust your ring to whatever size you wish. Keep in mind that signet rings look great paired or stacked with other rings too (The X ring worn in these photos is another favorite from Michaels Jewelers.) You could even wear your signet ring hung on a thin gold chain around your neck!
ENGRAVINGS
Signet rings are often worn to remind the wearer of their family. The best way to mark your signet ring is with your monogram (unless you’re super fancy and have a family crest!) I love the idea of wearing a ring that represents who you are. I chose to use my maiden name initials as a nod to where I came from. You could also have one made with your child’s monogram!
If you’re craving a custom ring but the traditional signet isn’t your style, Michaels Jewelers also offers CAD CAM Jewelry Design to create almost any piece of jewelry your heart desires. Simply bring a photo or drawing of the ring you like into your nearest Michaels jewelers store and in just a few days they’ll provide you with a computerized image of your design. After your review and approval, an exact wax replica will be made for you. If you’re happy with the final design, you could be wearing your new custom jewelry piece in just a few short weeks! This service is most popular for engagement ring and wedding bad designs – but can be used to create any type of ring or jewelry you wish!
Interested in transforming a piece you already own? Michaels Jewelers provides re-styling services too. Bring your old piece of jewelry into a Michaels store for them to transform it into something brand new!
