Every once in a while, I like to experiment with monochromatic styling – pairing multiple outfit pieces of similar color. Wearing the same hue from head to toe may seem boring, but when done correctly this minimalist look creates a clean, soft and classic feel. Today’s monochromatic color of choice: Grey.
This grey on grey look may seem easy to pull off, but there are some important things to keep in mind when styling your monochromatic separates. Wearing one color CAN become boring if you don’t incorporate some variety. The best way to add variation to your outfit is with different textures and shades. You can use texture to create dimension and distinction between your pieces. Experiment with different fabrics (I paired a chunky knit with denim.) You can also play around with shades. Don’t try to match the color of your pieces, but rather find different shades of the same hue that complement each other (I mixed a light grey top with a slightly darker grey washed-out denim.)
I’m excited to share that my jeans are the result of a last minute DIY project (an idea sparked by one of my recent instagram posts!) After purchasing multiple pairs of raw hem jeans, it finally occurred to me that it’d be much more wise (and cost effective) to try transforming my existing denim jeans – rather than buy new ones. These grey skinnies were the perfect pair to experiment with (I was planning on getting them hemmed anyway.) Two quick snips with the scissors and like magic…a new pair of jeans. Not only are my altered jeans right on trend, they are also now the perfect length to wear with my loafers and booties! If you’re digging the raw hem trend as much as I am, I highly encourage you give this DIY a try.
