Winter Classic: Red & Black Buffalo Plaid

Jacket(similar) | Turtleneck | Leggings | Boots | Hat | Bag | Sunglasses

One of my favorite patterns to wear during the winter months is buffalo plaid – red & black buffalo plaid to be exact. The newest addition to my ever-growing collection is this flannel top. It’s a combination of a shirt and lightweight jacket that can be worn on its own or layered over basic top or tee. This is just one of several buffalo plaid purchases I’ve made this season…it’s one of those patterns I just can’t get enough of! There are a few reasons I gravitate toward buffalo plaid this time of year and I’m sharing them with you below.

Why you need buffalo plaid in your life…

It’s a classic.

Red and black buffalo plaid dates back to 1850. I think its safe to say any pattern that can stick around for over 150 years will never go out of style. Rest assured you’ll be wearing your buffalo plaid purchases not only this season, but for years to come. FUN FACT:  The buffalo plaid pattern originated in Scotland, but the iconic name was established by the American outdoor clothing company, Woolrich. The designer responsible for reprising this classic design back in 1800s, was said to own a herd of buffalo – hence the name!

It’s easy to style.

Red and black buffalo plaid is casual and effortless to style. It looks particularly awesome paired with black and denim. So take advantage of this simple, classic style by wearing it with your go-to leggings or favorite pair of jeans.

It’s trending.

I always love when a classic pattern like red and black buffalo plaid also happens to be trending. You should have no problem finding a cute checkered plaid piece to wear this winter. Brands like J. Crew and Madewell have made buffalo plaid quite the fashion statement over the past couple years by introducing flattering pieces and tailored styles for us ladies. No longer is buffalo plaid only for lumberjacks!

I styled my buffalo plaid shirt/jacket with a lightweight turtleneck and the most flattering leggings EVER. If you haven’t purchased these yet, you MUST! They’re comfortable, great quality and incredibly slimming – the ultimate in athleisure wear. I topped off the look with my go-to Hunters boots. When it comes to winter clothes, neutrals may not be the first thing that comes to mind…. but soft, monochromatic looks are perfect for this time of year! So don’t shy away from neutral colors this season, but rather EMBRACE THEM! If you’re looking for some seasonal outfit inspo, I’m sharing some of my favorite winter neutral outfit ideas below.

I love styling neutrals because everything always matches – nothing ever clashes. This makes styling a neutral color palette easy and effortless. You can mix different neutral colors together (see Outfit #1) or wear the same color from head to toe (See Outfit #2). The key to mastering monochromatic styling is to incorporating different textures.  I styled these looks with a mix of cozy winter staples like leather shoes, suede boots, chunky knits and fur. The different textures help break up your outfit and add some variety. You can also experiment with wearing different shades of the same color – like dark grey jeans and a light grey sweater (see Outfit #3.)

I paired each neutral winter outfit with the same pair of grey denim by Mott & Bow. If you’re looking for affordably priced jeans that also happen to be incredibly slimming…this is the pair for you! I can’t get over how they completely transformed my legs. I’ll definitely be investing in more Mott & Bow denim!

Statement Piece For Winter: Leopard Fur Coat

Coat (for similar coats, see below) | Top | Denim | Boots | Sunglasses | Gloves

This is the season of the statement coat. Fur, shearling and teddy styles are all the rage and I’ve been eager to get in on the action! To make a statement that also aligned with my personal style, the decision was clear – leopard fur. I’ve been eyeing this gorgeous fluffy leopard fur coat for months and finally bit the bullet.

In addition to making a statement, these winter coats are also incredibly warm and cozy. I can’t think of a better way to bundle up then in some oversized faux ur. Wearing this coat will feel like you’re wrapped in a blanket. So if you’re looking for something to keep you warm and on-trend this season, be sure to get yourself a big statement coat! If leopard isn’t your thing, there are plenty of solid colored options that are just as stunning. While we’re talking winter necessities, my leather (tech friendly) gloves and over the knee boots are also some favorites!

Statement jackets are bold, so keep the rest of your outfit pieces classic and simple. I paired my leopard fur coat with a tissue turtleneck, high-waisted denim and over-the-knee boots.

Christmas Card 2017

MY OUTFIT: Dress | Socks | Hat | Boots  JAMES’ OUTFIT: Shirt | Denim | Boots JACKSON’S OUTFIT: Sweater

This time of year is bittersweet. Christmas is my favorite holiday but it always seems to go by so fast. I’m very excited to spend the next two days with family but also upset thinking that another Christmas will soon pass…

I’m feeling particularly lucky this year. It was just last Christmas that we were nursing our little guy back to health, after almost losing his life to leptospirosis. Jackson wasn’t doing so well this time last year so our 2016 family Christmas photos were taken in bed – in pjs with messy hair and all. At that point, we weren’t sure if we’d see another Christmas with Jackson…  This year our family Christmas photos were taken at a local tree farm (keep scrolling to the last picture of Jackson – its my favorite!) Needless to say, we’re counting our blessings this year….

Easy & Affordable False Lashes

Long, dark, full lashes. We all want them, so few have them. For those of you not blessed with naturally voluminous lashes, I’m sharing an EASY & AFFORDABLE way to achieve that full lash look! My secret??? I use single lashes. This technique is very similar to how professional eyelash extensions are applied. The solution is temporary, but works really well. I just use normal eyelash glue (rather than a permanent bonding agent) to apply single lashes – in the same manner extensions would be applied….
